2017 No.1 is one of Shen Liang’s The Bast Paper Series, which extended the artist’s exploration and creation of miscellaneous objects in daily life. Artists depict sunflower seed shells, garlic skins, and red onions skins on paper covered with lead powder. Through his brush strokes and technology of paints, a certain kind of beauty beyond the objects is derived. Through the artist’s unique narrative technique, the onion skins are as colorful as falling cherry blossoms. The ordinary things have the feast-like flourish.
